Your kitten’s first weeks at home set the tone for a long, happy life together. Here’s how to help them settle in.
[PLACEHOLDER: Kera, please read this page and change anything that doesn’t match how you raise and advise your kittens. Everything below is general guidance until you confirm it.]
The first few days
- Start your kitten in one quiet room with their litter box, food, water, a bed and a few toys. Open up the rest of the house once they’re eating, using the litter box and exploring confidently.
- Keep the same food and litter they’re used to for the first couple of weeks. If you want to change, mix the new in slowly.
- Introduce other pets slowly, with supervision, over several days.
- Kitten-proof: tuck away cords, string, hair ties and small objects, and keep toilet lids down.
Food
[PLACEHOLDER: what your kittens eat now (brand, wet/dry/raw), how often, and how much.]
Caring for curls
A Selkirk Rex coat needs gentle care. Too much brushing can loosen the curls, so a light comb-through with a wide-tooth comb is usually enough. Longhair Selkirks need it a little more often than shorthairs. Kittens’ curls can come and go as they grow, and the adult coat often isn’t settled until around two years old.
[PLACEHOLDER: your bathing and grooming routine, and any shampoo you recommend.]
Vet care
- Take your kitten’s health certificate and vaccination record to your own veterinarian.
- Your vet will finish any vaccinations still due for your kitten’s age.
[PLACEHOLDER: does your health guarantee require a vet visit within a certain number of days? Say so here.]
Indoors, always
Muzzbecatz cats live indoors only. It’s part of our contract and keeps them safe from cars, predators and disease. A window perch, a tall cat tree and daily play keep an indoor cat happy.
